Puppets
In live-action films, characters are played by real actors; in animated cinema, puppets take on this role, moved around by animators who “bring them to life”. The appearance of the puppets depends on the film’s overall visual style. Puppets may imitate real-life creatures or be entirely fictional. To make the puppets, artificial materials such as plastic, silicone, and plasticine are used – or sometimes natural materials such as wood, cotton, cardboard, or paper. Just as living creatures have a skeleton, puppets also have a special metal armature that holds them upright and allows them to move.
Stereoscope
A stereoscope is an optical device for viewing stereoscopic photographs. Two photographs of the same object, taken from two different angles, are combined in the device so that each eye sees only one of them, creating the illusion of a three-dimensional image. Stereoscopes have been in use since the mid-19th century.
