Shooting
Once the screenplay has been written and the sets and puppets have been made, it is time to start shooting. The film director works with animators, who move the puppets according to his instructions and photograph every single move. When the photographs are played back in quick succession, this creates the illusion of movement, and the puppets seem to come to life. This is how a puppet animation is made. The director of photography ensures that every scene looks the way the film director imagined it. Following the director’s instructions, they decide where the camera will be placed and light the set accordingly.
Shooting time
The film took 435 days to shoot and involved 16 animators from four countries. Each animator shot an average of five seconds of the film per day.
