Voice Recording Station – Instructions
At this interactive station, you can try your hand at recording speech for an animated film. Just like the voice actors and actresses who participated in Tales from the Magic Garden, you too can lend your voice to the characters in the film.
We have selected two short scenes from the film for you to record voice for.
On one screen, you can follow the action in the scene. On the other screen, you can see how the soundtrack is being recorded.
Select the first scene by pressing the left arrow.
Select the second scene by pressing the right arrow.
To watch and listen to the scene as it appears in the finished film, first press the S key so that the light on the key turns on. Then press the PLAY key.
When you have watched the scene to the end, press the STOP key. To watch it once more, press the PLAY key again.
When you are done listening to the original scene and would like to start recording your own dialogue, follow these steps:
If you’ve previously listened to the original recording, first press the S key again so that the light on the key turns off.
Select one of the two microphones. You can record the sound alone or in pairs.
Now press the REC key. When the key lights up, it means that the sound is being recorded.
When recording your voice, you can try out the dialogue from the film or make up your own lines. When speaking, try to sync the words to the characters’ mouths on the screen.
When you are finished recording, press REC and then STOP.
To listen to what you have recorded, press the PLAY key. When you have finished listening, press the STOP key.
If you want to re-record only part of your speech, first press PLAY, and when you reach the part you want to do again, press REC. To finish recording, press REC again and then STOP.
Recordings are not deleted; they are recorded over each other, so don’t be confused if you first hear the recording of someone who was there before you.
