The film collections of the Slovenian Cinematheque began to be formed in 1996. At the beginning, we collected all film materials we came across and only later began systematically building our collections of experimental films and home movies. Thanks to these collections, the Cinematheque became a full member of the International Federation of Film Archives (FIAF).
We purchase films or receive them as gifts or deposits from various natural or legal persons, but we also acquire them on the basis of exchanges with similar institutions. Today, the collections of the Slovenian Cinematheque comprise around 10,000 film prints, which we keep in the underground depots in Gotenica, where there are suitable conditions for the storage of sensitive film media.
