The Museum of Slovenian Film Actors, managed by the Slovenian Cinematheque and the Municipality of Divača, is located at the renovated Škratelj Homestead in Divača and offers a unique experience of Slovenian film heritage with an emphasis on the art of acting. There are two permanent exhibitions on view: one is dedicated to Ita Rina, an actress born in Divača as Ida Kravanja, while the main exhibition, dedicated to Slovenian film actors, unveils the secrets of film acting and presents to the visitors important Slovenian actors who have gone down in the history of Slovenian cinema. In the summer months, the museum screens films in its open-air cinema, while, throughout the year, its multi-purpose hall hosts various workshops for children and youth, lectures, external events and screenings.
In 1997, the Municipality of Divača, in cooperation with the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Heritage Nova Gorica, renovated the Škratelj House, which was the residential building of the homestead, while, on its first floor, the Slovenian Cinematheque mounted the permanent exhibition dedicated to the life and work of Ita Rina, an actress born in Divača. During the conversion of the upper floor of the Škratelj House into an exhibition space, the then director of the Slovenian Cinematheque Silvan Furlan got the idea of developing the permanent exhibition dedicated to the first Slovenian film star into a Museum of Slovenian Film Actors.
The renovation of the Škratelj Homestead began in 2002 when the architect and professor Vojteh Ravnikar prepared a renovation design contest in his seminar for students of the Faculty of Architecture, University of Ljubljana. In 2007, the Municipality of Divača, as the lead partner of the renovation project, applied for the funds of the Norwegian Financial Mechanism. The project was approved a year later and the contract with the Norwegian Financial Mechanism signed on 3 June 2008. In July 2010, the renovation of the Škratelj Homestead was completed and, on 8 July 2011, the Museum of Slovenian Film Actors was formally opened.
