In July and August, we will be clearing the cobwebs from the ceiling of the Silvan Furlan Hall and giving the projection booth a thorough clean. After a successful first half of another long cinematheque season, it is time for our traditional move to venues beneath the stars.
If you have never visited the Museum of Slovenian Film Actors in Divača—or if it has been a long time since your last visit—we warmly invite you to join us there on the first Friday of July for a tribute to actress Silva Čušin. Throughout August, the courtyard of the Škratelj Homestead, next to the birthplace of Ita Rina in Divača, will host a Friday evening film series dedicated to European women directors.
If you happen to be spending August in Ljubljana, we also invite you to the Slovenian Cinematheque Summer Cinema at the Metelkova Museum Plaza. With a refreshing drink from our pop-up Cinematheque bar in hand, you can enjoy an eclectic and socially engaged film programme, curated in collaboration with numerous partners.
I would particularly like to draw your attention to the film-and-literature festival Summer on Screen and Between the Pages and, as part of its programme, to the powerful anti-colonial war drama Camp de Thiaroye (1988) by Senegalese filmmakers Ousmane Sembène and Thierno Faty Sow.
Finally, let me once again invite you to visit the exhibition on the making of the feature-length animated film Tales from the Magic Garden, on view in the Slovenian Cinematheque’s exhibition space until the end of June. The film will return to our programme in the future, but this exhibition will never be shown again. Don’t miss it!
